POSITION: County 4-H Agent, Essex County

Department of 4-H Youth Development, Rutgers Cooperative Extension

New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station



LOCATION: Newark, NJ (Essex County)

NATURE & PURPOSE:

This tenure track position provides leadership to a comprehensive research-based youth development educational program for Essex County youth, grades K-13 (one year out of high school). Assess local needs to design, implement and evaluate relevant 4-H youth development programs, including those that support a strong 4-H club base. In collaboration with community agencies and organizations, develop strategies and maximize effectiveness of culturally relevant educational programs utilizing a variety of delivery modes. This includes recruitment, screening, training, supervision and evaluation of volunteers; program marketing and public relations; supervision of paid staff; securing grants, contracts, and other alternate funding streams to expand/enhance educational programs; and creation and support of needs-based programs that target underserved audiences. Expected to actively participate in appropriate departmental, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, University and County administrative functions. Expected to establish an outstanding program, the merits of which will lead to regional and/or national recognition.



SALARY & BENEFITS:

Academic Rank: County Agent III (equivalent to Assistant Professor)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Master's degree from an accredited institution in education, human/youth development, communication or other closely related fields. Three years related experience after bachelor’s degree. Experience or course work in youth development programming, volunteer management, working with diverse audiences, and/or collaboration/coalition building. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills (oral and written). Ability to address changing technology to serve clientele. Computer skills required. Evidence of recent educational materials and/or methods targeting diverse populations. Experience in working with people and evidence of effective human relations skills. Conflict management skills desired. Possess initiative, creativity, ability to take direction, and a willingness to learn and improve proficiency in designated subject matter areas. Possess organizational skills, flexibility and the ability to set priorities and manage multiple job tasks. Ability to plan, conduct, evaluate programs for youth and adults working with youth, consistent with Cooperative Extension goals and objectives. Marketing/public relations skills desired.



SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Valid New Jersey driver's license; ability to successfully complete Rutgers Defensive Driving Course. Selected candidate must agree and authorize the University to conduct a complete background investigation.
