DESCRIPTION: Under close supervision of a supervisory official, in an Environmental Program within the Department of Environmental Protection, learns to conduct routine surveys, studies, inspections, and/or investigations relating to the improvement and/or monitoring of environmental conditions, and/or the enforcement of environmental laws/regulations; does other related duties.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Physical Geography or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering.

License: Appointees will be required to possess a valid driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essentials duties of the position.




RESIDENCY: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7(L. 2011 Chapter 70), also known as the New Jersey First Act which became effective September 1, 2011, all persons newly hired by the NJDEP on or after that date shall have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. New Jersey state employees hired prior to September 1, 2011 who transfer from within the NJDEP or from another State of New Jersey appointing authority without a break in service greater than 7 days but who reside outside the State of New Jersey are not required to change their principal residence to New Jersey in order to comply with the act.







AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States according to the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorships for citizenships to the United States.

We are currently seeking candidates who are working towards obtaining a Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry or any Science related field for an internship during the summer of 2015. This summer internship opportunity in Industrial Hygiene & Chemical Safety Group.

Core Responsibilities:

· Efficiently conduct chemical and other hazardous material inventory and accurately record all required

· Inventory information on the provided inventory worksheet

· Update the electronic inventory database

· Management of material Safety Data Sheet (SDS) recordkeeping

· Review MSDSs for new or updated versions and update the MSDS database (SDS Browser)

Position Requirements
               

Position Requirements:

    Be able work with limited, direct supervision and be flexible according to the business needs /dynamic.
    Should have an awareness of applicable general safety procedures
    Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
    Experience with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
    Be able to travel locally between the facilities within 5 miles
    Must have experience in working in laboratories with chemicals and biologicals

    Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0+
