Graduate study at U of Iowa

The Sustainable Water Development (SWD) Graduate Program within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa is currently seeking 5-10 outstanding students to begin their MS or PHD in Fall 2018. In this NSF NRT-funded program, students will become a highly-trained water professional ready to meet the resource challenges of communities most in need as a professional engineer, researcher, educator, and more. This is not a "one-size-fits-all" graduate program. Students can tailor the curriculum to fit their unique interests and career goals - everything from politics to public health, chemistry to microbiology, and informatics to entrepreneurship and beyond - all while earning a generous student stipend. Prestigious NRT Fellowships are also available for the most meritorious applicants. All undergraduate STEM majors are eligible and encouraged to apply. Our first cohort of 17 SWD trainees came from fields including environmental science, meteorology, hydrology and more. SWD students conduct innovative research at the food, energy and water nexus, focusing on the impacts of climate change, resource recovery from waste, technologies for sustainable and healthy communities, and more. Community service and professional development experiences, including immersive internships with diverse project partners, complement this transformative research.
