Summer+fall work at Rutgers

Dear All:

We have a Type 4 (Seasonal Ag Worker) position available as described below. Please share with any graduating senior (Agricultural Science/Plant Science/Ag & Food Systems/Environmental and Business Economics background preferred) interested in gaining some experience in field experimentation and ag produce handling.

Position Available: Rutgers Type 4 (Seasonal Agricultural Worker)
1.      Purpose of appointment: The Rutgers Type 4 Seasonal Agricultural Worker (SAW) position in the NJAES Exotic Pepper Project is needed to manage the greenhouse and field studies designed to compare exotic pepper selections for public  release starting in 2016. These studies will involve raising pepper seedlings in the greenhouse, transplanting in the field, managing the peppers in the field (fertilizer application and weeding), collecting data on growth and development, and harvesting. In addition the SAW will organize the Harvest Your Own Pepper (HYOP) 2016, which shall include visual evaluation of pepper selections by participants at the HYOP 2016 event (in October 2016).
2.      Additional activities: As the need arises and in addition to the above responsibilities, the SAW will work on other crops such as tigernuts, green amaranth, roselle and okra in the greenhouse and field to advance production, harvesting and marketing at Farmers Markets and Rutgers Dining Services in New Brunswick
3.      Period of appointment: From Monday June 6, 2016 till November 30, 2016, in the first instance. 
4.      Location of  appointment: Rutgers’ School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, New Brunswick, NJ
5.      Work hours: 32 hours per week (or 4 [four] 8-hr days per week)
6.      Wage: $11/hr
7.      Employment status: Rutgers Type 4
8.      Supervisor: Dr. Albert Ayeni
9.      Health Insurance: The SAW must comply with Rutgers’ conditions on health insurance requirements.
10.  Mobility: Employee must have a means of transportation
