Position
Information:
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection
is seeking a paid summer intern to assist in:
1.
Identifying significant sources of food waste in
the State;
2.
Developing a GIS-based mapping analysis of those
sources, and;
3.
Estimating the volume of non-residential food
waste generated in the State.
Food residuals are the second largest portion of
the municipal solid waste stream in the United States, behind paper
products. However, there is no
infrastructure in New Jersey to recycle large volumes of food waste. This internship will help the Department
assess the economic viability of food waste recycling in New Jersey.
The information to be developed by the summer
intern will assist the Department in developing strategies to maximize
recycling of food waste.
Requirements:
Candidates for this summer internship must have the
following qualifications:

Experience in ARC GIS is desired.

Research skills in a scientific or geographic
discipline are desired.

Attention to detail.
-
Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Interest in recycling and sustainability.
Note: Completion of at least 2 years of
undergraduate education is preferred.
