NJ Dept of Health

Belize

Dear Faculty,

I’m Ed Boles, Ph.D, and I teach a Marine and Watershed course in the summer in Belize. Do you know students who want more hands-on experience in the fields of ecology and conservation? Would they benefit from studying abroad for just two or four weeks? The Institute for Sustainable International Studies, ISIS Belize, offers conservation and ecology courses over the summer in English speaking Belize, in Central America. Our courses offer experiences in the jungle, the Belize Zoo, the savannahs, crystal clear rivers and in the Caribbean Sea.

Our summer sessions run in two week sections during June and July and carry three credit hours each. Students can take two courses back to back for six credits and spend a glorious month in Belize. For full details on the courses offered and the syllabus for each course, please click on the links below to our website at www.isisbelize.com. Class sizes are limited to 12 students to provide the best learning experience.
Wildlife Health, Ecology and Conservation
Tropical Marine Ecology and Conservation
Watershed Ecology, Conservation and Management NEW!

Our winter 2014 students had this to say:

Wildlife - “I had a great experience with ISIS doing my winter course of wildlife ecology. The program was easy to sign up for, the instructors and guest instructors/presenters where fantastic and very knowledgeable in the field. We had a lot of opportunities for hands on work and I am so glad I did it!”

Marine -“…We stayed in the jungle, on the cayes, and in San Ignacio, all of which gave us the opportunity to meet the local people and experience their way of living. The course itself was extremely hands on and gave us experience working with what we were learning about in ways that you most likely wouldn't have at your home school. The class was small, giving us a lot of face time with the teacher as well making it easy for the class to bond.. All in all, I'm not sure I could ever ask for a better experience and I'm so glad that I chose I.S.I.S. Belize to be my first study abroad program.”

A two week course is $2,825 (3 credits) and the two course session is $4,450 (6 credits). Airfare is not included. Application forms are available on our website. Transcripts are issued from Sacred Heart College in San Ignacio, Belize, or for those students needing transcripts from a US university, click here for details.

Please pass this information along to students who are looking for a study abroad opportunity or to those who want practical field work in their career choices. This is a great first time study abroad experience. Cynthia Reece, our Program Director for the Institute, can respond to questions related to housing, logistics, course costs, credit transfers and other details.

Sincerely,

Ed Boles, Ph.D.

Environment New Jersey internships

My name is David Beavers. I’m a Campaign Organizer with Environment New Jersey, a statewide, citizen-based environmental non-profit based in New Brunswick.

I run Environment New Jersey’s solar energy campaign. I’m working to engage the public in order to build political will around generating 20% of our electricity in state from solar energy by 2025. New Jersey has historically been a leader in clean energy development, and adopting and meeting this goal would help solidify our leadership in the transition to a clean energy economy.

To do this work, I’m looking to hire Rutgers students as spring interns. I’m reaching out to you because I thought our work may be of interest to some of your students.

Will you help spread the word about the solar campaign internship with Environment New Jersey by forwarding this message and the below job posting to your students?

Thank you very much for your support, and please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, or to share my contact information with students you have who you think would be particularly interested in our work.

Kind regards,

David

Internships for a Solar Future

If you want to promote clean energy, learn to shape politics, and make a positive difference for our environment and our economy, apply to be an Environment New Jersey intern today

What does Environment New Jersey do?

Environment New Jersey is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization working to protect our open spaces, clean up our air and water, and promote renewable energy development. This spring, we’re focusing on mobilizing the political power to build a clean energy future in New Jersey, powered by clean, solar energy.

What do interns with Environment New Jersey do?

You’ll generate buzz in the media, build coalitions, organize events and lobby decision-makers. Ultimately, you’ll help us build the kind of public support it takes to win. You’ll bottom line diverse facets of the campaign and learn transferable skills in the following areas:

- Communications and Event Planning: We need to raise the profile of solar in the media and spread our message that bold political leadership is necessary to supplant the status quo of dirty energy. As an intern, you’ll help us generate positive media coverage. You’ll stage press conferences to release our research reports, build relationships with reporters, and get your own letters to the editor published.

- Coalition Engagement: To have the political leverage to promote good clean energy policy, we need to expand our reach by working with other groups and individuals. As an intern, you’ll attend city council meetings to present solar resolutions and contact business owners to pitch endorsement letters.

- Design and Digital Media: To engage the broadest possible audience, we need attractive and informative campaign materials and innovative digital media strategies. As an intern, you’ll design the “face” of our campaign, take charge of Environment NJ’s Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep our followers up-to-date, and use new platforms like Thunderclap to spread our message.

- Grassroots: We can’t outspend the special interests fighting solar, but we can out-organize them. As an intern, you’ll work to build the base needed to show our political leaders there’s overwhelming public support for transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable, solar energy. You’ll collect petitions, generate campaign calls, lobby decision-makers yourself, and organize deliver events.

How do I become an Environment New Jersey intern?

Send a resume and cover letter to David at dbeavers@environmentnewjersey.org

Apply today: Deadline is Sunday, February 15th

All internships are part-time and unpaid. We help you get course credit whenever possible.

Fund For The Public Interest

My name is Michael Bralow and I am currently a Campaign and Recruitment Director for the Fund For The Public Interest. We are a national non-profit that runs grassroots campaigns. We work in partnership with groups like USPIRG, Environment America, Fairshare, and the Human Rights Campaign, on some of the most pressing Environmental and Social Justice Issues facing the United States.

We are looking to continue to build up our campaign staff. Right, now we are working in partnership with Environment New Jersey to protect our Shore, by closing serious loopholes in the Clean Water Act. Later in the year we will be partnering with NJPIRG (New Jersey Public Interest Research Group) to protect against the rise in antibiotic resistant infections by reducing the use of antibiotics on factory farms.

We are hiring College students across the country for our winter campaign staff. We offer both Full-Time and Part-Time Positions. Our New Brunswick office is staffing up right now and we are looking to fill it with the brightest young minds around, so naturally I am reaching out to Rutgers Professors. We have positions for people to work full-time, or if their class schedule doesn’t allow for fulltime hours we work with students around their schedules, or if they are graduating, apply for one of our career positions complete with benefits. Some of the best ways for us to find the great candidates that I know schools in the area have to offer, is by having professors email our announcement to their students, or posting it on a group message boards. If you could please email your students with the blurb below, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and If you are willing to help with an email/posting/ or announcement please let me know! I am writing a sample posting at the bottom of this email.

Have a Great rest of your semester.
Sincerely,

Michael Bralow
