PhD at NJIT

The Center for Natural Resources Development and Protection (NRDP) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has awards (tuition+stipend) to support multiport Research Assistant positions in the areas of hydrology/hydrogeology/hydraulic engineering starting September 2016 and January 2017. The students would work on projects funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the USEPA, and Industry.

Students would matriculate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NJIT, http://civil.njit.edu/academics/graduate/phd-env.php, which is housed in the College of Engineering, ranked in the top 100 engineering colleges in the US by the 2015 US News and World Report. The research requires conducting numerical simulations of water flow and solute transport in various water systems (underground, surface, and estuaries).

The qualified candidate must have a strong understanding of the fundamentals, and have high grades and high GRE scores. The position is offered on the Main Campus of NJIT in Newark, 20 minutes from downtown New York City. The NRDP Center Director (Professor Michel Boufadel) and staff are conducting research on major projects including the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the Deepwater Horizon (Gulf) spill, natural gas extraction from Marcellus Shale, and Hurricane Sandy. More information on the NRDP Center can be found at http://nrdp.njit.edu.
