What is a Student Ambassador?**
Mission:
Student Ambassadors are current students who act as a link between the university and the outside community. They
volunteer under the direction of the Office of Academic Programs –
SEBS. Their purpose is to share with the public information about the
various programs and student services available at our school, and build
community and support traditions at SEBS. Ambassadors are leaders that
are dedicated to welcoming and introducing new and prospective students
to Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. They
use their own experiences to give people interested in university life
an idea of what it is like to be a student at Rutgers SEBS. They
interact with prospective students and their family/friends at Open
Houses and other campus events; and assist SEBS faculty in their
academic sessions at Open Houses. They assist the SEBS Administration in
maintaining and celebrating the annual traditions of Rutgers SEBS.
Duties:
SEBS Student Ambassadors have opportunities to play vital roles in recruitment and college programs such as:
· Serving as on-campus hosts for high school/transfer students in the “Spend-A-Day” Program
· Interacting with Prospective International Students via e-mail in the “SEBS International Ambassador” Program
· Attending high schools and sharing their experiences with students through the “Return to High School” Program
· Answering
questions from visitors and sharing your experiences as Rutgers SEBS
students with the “Outreach Ambassadors” and “Transfer Ambassadors”
· Assisting
with the Rutgers SEBS School Induction, Baccalaureate, and Convocation
Ceremonies with the “Traditions and Ceremonies Team”
Job Skills Acquired through Volunteering:
The
program provides the Student Ambassador with an excellent opportunity
to build your resume and gain valuable work experience - improving
skills such as interpersonal and intercultural communication, customer
service, team work, leadership, and working with diverse populations.
Participants also build valuable connections with Rutgers SEBS Academic
Deans and faculty in their major.
