Hello Marjorie,
I hope this message finds you well and you
are enjoying your summer.
I am going to be posting an announcement for
an intern through the Oakridge Institute’s ORISE program (http://orise.orau.gov/epa/default.htm)
within the next few weeks.
While this is not an EPA position, the
internship can be renewed 3 additional years and the position
provides great opportunities to those interested in working for
the federal government.
I am specifically looking for someone with
knowledge of climate science. I was thinking you might be aware
of a few recent graduates that might be interested in this
position. When the position is officially posted I will let you
know, feel free to pass on my contact information to anyone that
would want to talk to me about this opportunity.
Below is a rough draft description of the job
and the qualification requirements.
Thank you.
The intern will be
involved with the Climate Ready Water Utilities initiative
team within the Water Security Division. The intern will
assist with the development of tools, training courses,
guidance documents, and other resources to help utilities be
better prepared to adapt to and mitigate the potential
impacts of climate change on drinking water and wastewater
utilities. The intern will support Agency staff with
coordination among water sector response and climate change
partners at the utility, local, state, and federal levels.
He/she will assist: 1)
in conducting analyses; 2) developing summary reports; 3)
working with EPA staff and external stakeholders, and 4)
developing of a variety of materials related to the national
water programs’ response to climate change.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have
received a bachelor’s degree or higher in a biological or
physical science, engineering, or environmental policy
within the past four years or completion of all requirements
for the degree should be expected prior to the starting
date. Climate change experience and knowledge are preferred
for this position.
The program is open to
all qualified individuals without regard to race, sex,
religion, color, age, physical or mental disability,
national origin, or status as a Vietnam era or disabled
veteran. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident
status is preferred (but can also hold an appropriate visa
status, however, an H1B visa is not appropriate).
The intern must show proof of
health and medical insurance.
The intern does not become an EPA employee.
The
appointment will initially be full-time for one year and may
be renewed for up to three additional years depending on
funding; the annual stipend will start at about $42,000.
