LABORATORY
TECHNICIAN
GENERAL STATEMENT OF
DUTIES
Performs chemical, physical and microbiological
analyses on samples of industrial wastewater, plant influent, partially treated
wastewater, sludge, effluent, stream water samples and other samples as
required, according to Standard Methods. Operates and maintains instruments and
equipment required for analytical work. Prepares chemical and microbiological
media and test solutions used in the laboratory. Tabulates and performs
statistical results of laboratory and field data. Performs and maintains
records of QA/QC procedures. Performs custodial duties in laboratory including
the washing of laboratory glassware. Performs related and other duties as
assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of the
Laboratory Supervisor or his/her authorized representative.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May supervise laboratory personnel of lesser
qualifications if assigned to do so by the Laboratory Supervisor.

POSITION
REQUIREMENTS
·
An
Associates Degree in Biological, Chemical or Environmental Science and three
(3) years experience as a Laboratory Assistant/ Technician or,
·
A Bachelors Degree in Biological, Chemical or
Environmental Science and one (1) year experience as a Laboratory
Assistant/Technican.
·
Experience
in laboratory analysis of water, wastewater and wastewater sludges is
preferred.
SPECIAL
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
·
Working
knowledge of the laboratory practices, test techniques, equipment and
terminology in the field wastewater analysis.
·
Ability
to successfully carry out detailed oral and written instructions.
·
Ability
to maintain concise laboratory records and prepare reports.
·
Be
familiar with basic concepts of statistics.
·
Knowledge
of Standard QA/QC Laboratory Procedures.
·
An
interest in performing a wide variety of chemical analyses and general
laboratory procedures.
·
Must
be reliable, thorough, and dependable with the ability to work both
independently and as part of a team.
·
Must
be thoroughly safety conscious when performing duties.
·
Must
receive directions well and be willing to learn.
·
Must
be self- motivated.

Internship with NJ Conservation Foundation
2017 Internship Description
Position Title: Land Conservation Intern
Company Description:
New Jersey Conservation Foundation is a nonprofit
organization that preserves open space and farmland throughout New Jersey. We do this by applying land acquisition
skills to convince landowners to preserve properties, managing 27,000 acres of
land, promoting advocacy and policy issues with state agencies and the state legislature, engaging the public
and other conservation organizations in educational activities, and efficiently
managing a large conservation nonprofit.
Job Description: The intern will take part in a variety of
projects, including but not limited to:
·
assist with the development of a county open
space plan
·
organize a statewide conference that will take
place on March 2, 2018
·
outreach activities concerning the NJ
Conservation Blueprint, a statewide, online mapping tool showing land
conservation priorities statewide.
·
organize educational workshops and roundtables
of the Land Trust Network
The intern will have opportunities to engage in all the
activities of the organization, including field work with the stewardship team,
research for the policy team, and event assistance with the development department.
A general knowledge of environmental systems is
helpful, but not required. Interest in
marketing, communications, social engagement, planning, environmental
education, event planning is also useful.
Commitment: Position could be full-time (35 hours/week) or
part-time (at least 20 hours/week).
Schedule is flexible and developed with the intern’s supervisor. Opportunities to work “virtually” may be
possible. Position begins on September
5 and ends December 31.

weeks (30 hours/week)
